Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Performs high quality non-invasive cardiovascular diagnostic
procedures in accordance with departmental policies, accreditation
guidelines and regulatory standards to achieve positive outcomes
and patient experience.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently
demonstrates our core values.
2. *Competently performs diagnostic procedures including but not
limited to adult cardiac ultrasound, pediatric cardiac ultrasound,
and/or vascular ultrasound in accordance with established policies
and procedures.
3. *Performs quantitative calculations from data obtained and
records preliminary impression where applicable.
4. *Provides the reading physician with adequate diagnostic
information necessary to generate final report; notifies physician
if results require immediate attention.
5. *Performs routine equipment maintenance and departmental
maintenance including cleaning, disinfection and use of appropriate
solutions.
6. *Transports patients and medical equipment within the department
and facility.
7. May cross-train to perform additional non-invasive diagnostic
procedures including but not limited to electrocardiograms,
long-term cardiac monitors and exercise stress testing.
8. Informs leadership of any patient, equipment or environmental
safety concerns.
9. Communicates/interfaces with facility personnel, medical staff,
patients, families and outside agencies to ensure quality patient
care.
10. Maintains a safe and positive working environment.
11. Participates in departmental quality initiatives and lab
accreditation (with ICAEL/ICAVL) activities.
12. Participation in after-hours, weekend and holiday on call
rotation required. Must be able to respond within 30 minutes of
activation.
13. Participates in training of ultrasound students and new hire on
boarding and orientation.
14. Operates mobile ultrasound equipment in all areas of the
hospital.
15. Provides education to patients or patient representatives
regarding the procedure(s) performed.
16. Accesses and administers ultrasound enhancing agents as
clinically indicated and in accordance with Medical Center policies
and procedures.
17. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars,
workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest
trends in field of expertise.
18. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as
assigned.
19. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy and physiology with special
emphasis on hemodynamics.
2. Knowledge of cardiac dysrhythmias and life-threatening
rhythms.
3. Knowledge of patient education as it relates to cardiovascular
treatment, disease prevention and rehabilitation.
4. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software
applications relevant to work functions.
5. Skill in operating a personal computer and general office
equipment.
6. Skill in the performance and application of most non-invasive
cardiology procedures.
7. Ability to carry out daily schedule through individual or
cooperative efforts.
8. Ability to accurately perform quantitative and qualitative
analysis of procedure scheduled.
9. Ability to move and transport heavy ultrasound equipment.
10. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal
supervision.
11. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in
writing.
12. Ability to practice proper body mechanics and utilize ergonomic
methods/tools to ensure personal and customer/patient safety.
13. Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff,
volunteer and ancillary departments including diverse patient
populations.
14. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive
information.
15. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program or
equivalent clinical job training required.
Credential in at least two (2) of the following registry
specialties required:
a. Adult Cardiac Sonography: RDCS-AE (ARDMS) -or- RCS (CCI)
b. Pediatric Cardiac Sonography: RDCS-PE (ARDMS) -or- RCCS
(CCI)
c. Vascular Technology: RVT (ARDMS) -or- RVS (CCI)
d. Advanced Cardiac Sonography: ACS (CCI)
New graduates or sonographers training who are board eligible for
at least two (2) registries may be hired into the Cardiovascular
Sonographer II job role. A minimum of two (2) credentials must be
obtained within 18 months of position start date.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) with AED certification required within 30
days of start date. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart
Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for
healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
Valid drivers license required. Verification and maintenance of
responsible driving record per facility standards required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
(Physical Requirements are based on Federal criteria and assigned
by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)
(DOT) Characterized as medium work requiring exertion of 20 to 50
pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force
frequently, and/or a greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of
force constantly to move objects.
Possible exposure to body fluids and communicable disease; may be
required to lift and transport patients.
